Backstage at Tosca -- Ever loyal to his opera's protagonists, Michael has deftly disarmed two members of the firing squad on their way to execute Cavaradossi during Act II. 

Michael (age 9, bundled in the blanket) onstage in "Peter Grimes," his first opera with SF Opera. He has just been sent from an orphanage to be Grimes' new apprentice after the previous one died under mysterious circumstances. For good reason, the women here are afraid to entrust this orphan to the taciturn Grimes.  Michael's character later falls to his death off a cliff -- one of Michael's very favorite opera experiences!
